Kali Linux in VMware Workstation Player
I needed to run Kali Linux in my computer. So, I knew there are 2 or 3 ways to do that.
9. To avoid this, you'll have to access my BIOS settings. For me, I had to press F2 button for several times within the bootup time as my lap was an Acer. Google your computer brand to acknowledge your BIOS key. Once you get to the BIOS settings, then go to advanced settings and make VT-X and VT-D Enabled if it's disabled. In some computer it's shown as 'Intel Virtualization Technology'. You just have to enable it.
1. Run kali as the main OS
2. Run Kali in a virtual machine
3. Dual boot my computer with windows.
From these 3 options I choose to run Kali in a virtual machine as it's easy and it's the way most of the people use.
I will summarize the procedure step by step. (Note: My computer was Acer swift 3 with an Intel i5- 8th gen processor. AMD has a different method)
1. Downloaded VMware workstation player from www.vmware.com and intall it with default settings.
2. Went to www.kali.org and downloaded the Kali Linux 64-bit VMware()
This will redirect to a site of offensive security and it will look like this.
When you click on the rounded link, Kali Linux will be downloaded. (Note: Downloading speed is low but it will be downloaded and it'll be 2.2GB in size).
3. Go to www.7-zip.org and download the 7z setup according to the bit rate of your computer.
4. Extract the downloaded 7-z Kali Linux file as follows.
You can move the extracted file wherever you want. It doesn't matter. All you have to do is remember the location you moved the file.
5. Open VMware follow below steps and open the extracted Kali Linux folder.
6. When you select the Kali Linux file, it should appear on the VMware as follows and click on the shown place.
7. Then change the marked settings as follows. (Note: These configurations must applicable with your machine aspects, if not make these changes according to your computer's configurations)
Then save changes by pressing OK button below.
8. Work is not finished, you will have to enable virtualization in your BIOS settings. If you tried to run the virtual machine, you will get following error.
10. Be sure to Save and Quit.
12. Try to run Kali after you enable your VT-X and VT-D. It should look like following. (Default username and password is 'kali')
13. If it's still giving the error in 8th point. Try following steps. If it's working properly do not follow below instructions
- Type cmd in your search bar on the bottom. It will show up as follows. Then run it as the administrator.
- It will look like as follows
- Then press enter. Following was my output. After this process you should reboot your PC and try to run the Kali Linux again.
- Default Username and Password is 'kali'. Then you are good to work with Kali.
